Our webinar on February 10th features Shari Haber, and I wanted to spotlight her because she’s done a lot of great work. Shari is the founder of My Great Goodbye, a business helping people with advance planning. She is also a Certified Conscious Dying Coach. Below are her responses to questions I gave her:

  1. What inspired you to get involved with FCANNJ?

“There’s a big need to normalize conversations around death and dying, as attitudes and options in our State are evolving and many people are looking for guidance. New Jersey’s legalization of Medical Aid in Dying and Natural Organic Reduction (AKA Human Composting) are two newer options. I support FCANNJ’s emphasis on hosting more of these conversations and providing consumer education in furtherance of advance planning.”

  1. What is your favorite topic within either end of life care or after death care?

“Professionally, I enjoy helping people clarify what matters most in their life, and then making them aware of what they should and could do to create a goodbye plan that reflects their values and priorities. I’m also fascinated by the growing trend of Living Funerals, Ethical Wills and the use of different technologies for legacy projects.

Personally, I’m happy to see the return to more personalized, human-centered after-death care and options that are kinder to the environment, like Green Burial.”

  1. What do you feel has been your greatest professional achievement so far?

“I’ve had some success raising awareness of advance death care planning as being another dimension of ‘adulting’,and expanding the horizon for end-of-life planning beyond the point when life ends… But there’s still lots to do!”

  1. What’s something you haven’t accomplished that you’d like to accomplish?

“I’ve toyed with the idea of writing a book, and more recently have been thinking about a podcast or other media platforms.”

  1. What motivates you to keep working on all your projects?

“Continually learning about new thinking and practices from others in the Death Education field and my clients; the subject matter resonates with me on so many levels. I also love the magic that happens when people realize that planning for their death can help them live more intentionally and fully now!”
