Dear friends, members, and supporters,
The clock is ticking to register for our first-ever online conference September 26-27, 2020. We’ll put links in this email to register for the three live presentations. You can also visit our conference page for full information and links to registration.
The conference is free, and open to everyone, FCA affiliates, members, and the general public.
1. Here’s how it works. Three live presentations will be offered on Saturday and Sunday. Registration in advance is required to attend the keynote presentations.
2. After the live presentations, we’ll be posting pre-recorded presentations (what you’d call ‘break-out’ programs if it were in person). These pre-recorded videos will be available to view at any time once they’re released. You will not have to register to watch the breakout videos.
We’re delighted to feature closing keynote speaker Dr. Kami Fletcher, Associate Professor of History at Albright College. Dr. Fletcher’s presentation, African American Undertaking: History, Burial Rights and Deathwork, will illustrate the history of black funeral homes and their economic and cultural significance.
On Saturday, September 26, at 1 pm Eastern/10 am Pacific, I will open the conference with a live discussion of our federation’s national push to convince the Federal Trade Commission to update the Funeral Rule to mandate that funeral homes post their prices online, and more.
At 3 pm Eastern/12 pm Pacific, Sarah Jane Lambring of the national FCA board will present Distance Grieving: Ritual and Connection When We Can’t Be There in Person.
