It is recommended that as many as ten certified death certificates be purchased at the time of death. Ordering extras later is very time consuming and may delay the settlement of an estate. Agencies such as Social Security, banks, insurance companies and investment houses all require a certified copy of the death certificate. The cost is usually $10 – $15 per copy.
